Who We Are

Bloomsburg University Student Veterans Association (BUSVA) is an organization centered around anyone interested in the culture, experience, and needs of Bloomsburg’s military-connected students. BUSVA is a resource for people looking for a community of people with a shared interest in military-connected students. While many of our members are veterans themselves or directly military-connected, we welcome any person who wants to be involved. Some members may be interested because they have veteran family members while others may have no military connections at all. No matter the case, BUSVA welcomes you. We focus heavily on events that foster connections with one another, whether that means a relaxed get together, a formal event, or volunteering at the local soup kitchen. BUSVA members can often be found at The Military Office (SSC 013). Anyone interested in learning more about the organization and the people involved is welcome to stop by the office or check out our upcoming events.

BUSVA's History

Since the beginning of the new millennium, BUSVA has held a place on Bloomsburg University’s campus. Following the tragedy of 9/11, many Americans were enlisting for military service. This created an influx of veteran students in the mid-to-late 2000’s upon reintegration into civilian society after military service. In the midst of the rise in veteran student numbers, BUSVA was created, building a community around the needs of those veterans. As the state of the U.S. military grows and changes, BUSVA follows suit. Since BUSVA’s establishment, the organization has grown to meet the needs of its members.

Looking back on the club’s beginnings, you will find different leaders, different types of activities, different members, etc., but one thing has remained constant: the idea of community. BUSVA holds events such as our annual spring semi-formal as well as cookouts every semester where members are invited to come together and connect with one another. Along with our planned events, members will often also spend time in The Military Office located at 013 Student Services Center, just spending quality time with one another. This idea of connecting with other members is a core principle within BUSVA.
